How the traditional marketing playbook is broken

The Australian Arab Business Council members had the pleasure of listening to Lucy Seed from Hubspot during our October 2018 dinner and networking evening. The key message of the dinner was to understand how traditional forms of marketing to grow your business are no longer as successful as they used to be.

Over the last 15 years we have seen the conventional forms of marketing lose popularity, which has resulted in reduced returns back to businesses. The emergence of social media and its growing power, as well as web presence (via search engine optimisation) are now of paramount importance to any business looking to grow their business by generating new sales opportunities.

Lucy also shared a tool with our audience, which allowed each member to test their website and confirm the strength of its traffic.

Further to the marketing presentation, we also heard from Board Member Reem Burrows, who shared the results of our most recent member survey. Some of the key take outs our members have shared with us were –

• Overall experience of members is very positive; request for more networking time
• Quality of speakers; majority of members are very satisfied and wish for this to continue
• Additional comments include:
o Need more visitors which will result in more business
o Networking time to get to know each others businesses
o Family participation
o Professional networking with the help of the board

The next dinner of the AABC will be held Tuesday 13th November at the Waterview in Bicentennial in Homebush. Please note, this will be our Annual General Meeting. We will also have the pleasure of listening to our key note speaker – Dr Shane Gaha.
